This model depicts Whale roadway, the initial development for which was carried out by Braithwaite Ltd of west Bromwich. A series of jigs and templates were then designed so that sections could be fabricated by some 250 firms all over Britain and then dispatched for assembly by the Royal Engineers. 120 80 foot spans of Whale roadway were built with a total length of over 10 miles.
