The Airportable Bridge was brought into service in 1968. It’s components could be used to assemble a Class 16 bridge, or a raft. The APB was used in operations in the Falklands War (1982). It has also been used by the Royal Australian, Royal Canadian and Nigerian Engineers. The APB was manufactured by Laird (Anglesey) Ltd and this model, originally made by the company’s apprentice craftsmen, was presented to the Royal Engineer’s Museum in 1996.
